Tribute to John Hewitt 1964 - 2024

A true professional and a very warm, friendly man. I visit thousands of dentists in my role but few as welcoming and charismatic as John. Sending love and strength to all John’s family and friends.

We are devastated by this tragic news and send our love to John’s family and close friends. John was our next door neighbour in Timperley - friendly, thoughtful and full of life. After reading these beautiful tributes, we know him so much more. Love from Alan and Halina.

I first met John at university and enjoyed many a misspent night at the Leadmill. Some years later, I thought I give him a go as my dentist, what was there to lose! Visiting John was a pleasure, I wonder how many dental patients can say that. I loved the nostalgia, catching up on news about shared friends and keeping upto date with where our lives were taking us, the dental care wasn’t bad either. He soon became a trusted practitioner for the whole family, caring for Adrian and our girls, Millicent and Honor. John was kind, sensitive, fun, hugely engaged and knowledgable and we will miss him terribly. Been an honour John.

I first met John many, many years ago, when he had just started work in Manchester. I can still remember his smile when I walked into his room! We then started dating on and off over a number of years and he even proposed to me more than once! For various reasons it wasn’t to be, but he remained my friend. I recommended him to many of my colleagues in chambers and they all loved him. In fact, he was soon also treating their families and wider relatives, as well as my own. At a time when not a lot of people had heard of them, John gave me veneers. I used to get so many compliments on my teeth! I was always tempted to pretend they were my own, since no one knew about the technique then, but John said it was only fair that he got the credit! It still seems inconceivable that he’s no longer around, as if everything is a bit dimmer somehow. I can’t imagine how strongly his absence must be felt by his family and close friends, who have my heartfelt sympathy. I really should have said “yes”, John. Rest easy for eternity. Everyone up there will now have the most beautiful teeth! Xxx

John was such a genuine person. My parents used to come up from Norfolk especially for appointments with him. He was more than a dentist to them. My dad (fellow bike enthusiast) always loved having a chat with him. It often made his day. Always a pleasure to talk to. Will be greatly missed and can only imagine the whole he has left behind. Thoughts are with his family. Look after yourselves.

Whilst - for over twenty years - John was a great dentist for me, more than anything else, he was a true friend. Rest in peace John
